Abstract

The authors of the Institute of Animal Science of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences, the Association of Animal Farmers of Ukraine, UKOOPSOYUZ, LLC ―Izyumskoye zverokhozyaystvo‖, LLC ―Iren and K °‖, Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky zveroplemhoz developed new standards (currently in force) on minks’ and foxes’ pelts which are breeding in cages. Specifications for the replacement of GOST 27769-88 (TU 61 of Ukraine 603-94) and GOST 2790 - 88.

In the article were highlighted the common standards for the requirements of minks’ and foxes’ pelts which are breeding in cages while assessing their quality, labeling, packaging, transportation and storage.

The standards indicate the pelts’ identity to the zoological species and what is the object of standardization. Standards are in the form of complex what consist of 12 sections and 4 applications.

It should be noted that the developed regulatory documents DSTU 7825: 2015 and DSTU 8415: 2015 are associated with standards for materials, methods for controlling product quality, labeling and sanitary norms and rules which are establishing product safety requirements.

It must be emphasized that the development of standards takes into account the productive indicators of animals that have changed as a result of breeding, improved housing and feeding conditions.

In addition, the estimates of the basic color of fur, are estimated by shades of hair color of mink pastel.

The size assessment of pelts has changed due to the addition to the new standards of the method of drying skins: hair out (for export). In the first method (hair inwards) in the mink pelts , the division into sex is absent compared with another method - they are divided into skins from females and males. The interval between the size categories is set at the first method - 2 cm, at the second - 6 cm. It must be emphasized that, according to the requirements of the new standard, pelts which are dried with hair inwards, 1 category has two values: І and І +. In the first method of drying, the pelts of the 10th are attributed to rejection category and in the second method of drying the 5th one.

In foxes, regardless of the method of drying, the skins are not divided by sex, but the interval between the size categories has changed 8 cm versus the abolished standard, as opposed to 5 cm in the developed one. The requirements of the new standard fox skin 5 size category, which is 65 cm, are subject to rejection.

Subsequently, depending on the methods of drying, the calculation of the net value of mink and fox pelts has changed, since one of the main criteria affecting its value is the size of the skins. The list of indicators by which the quality of the skins is assessed, namely, the size category, grade, groups of defects are listed in the table of mandatory Appendix B.

The calculation of the test value of foxes' pelts has its differences, since indicators of color and silver groups are added to the calculation. For 100 percent of the test value, the skins of І colors, І silverness groups І, І grades and the first group of defects and the second dimensional category are taken, the third category in the canceled one.

No less important requirements are introduced in the new standards for the safety of fur products. The list of indicators and methods of their control are given in the fourth section, ―Technical Requirements‖.

The developed standards for mink and fox skins meet the ideology and orientation of European standards.
